Auckland Volcanoes - Roman

20 million years ago Auckland and the rest of Zealandia (The Ancient Continent Of New Zealand) had almost disappeared by getting stretched and thinned by tectonic forces. (An Motion Of Earth)

Auckland’s identity was helped by our volcanoes, they caused our land to rise from the sea around 16 million years ago, when the Waitakere Volcano rose from the seafloor and erupted which caused it to emerge through the waves of the sea and brought back land to the west. The Auckland volcano also erupted that caused most of the other land to rise back up from the sea. Auckland’s volcano, “Rangitoto”, located in Rangitoto Islands is known as our landmark volcano which last erupted about 600 years ago and is called the youngest volcano in New Zealand, even though it hasn’t affected our landscape and land it still is part of Auckland’s identity.

Currently kiwi scientists monitored our 53 volcanoes in Auckland and came to the conclusion that none of our volcanoes are currently active. Scientists also expect another eruption in Auckland but they aren’t very sure on when and where, but they predict that it will be a volcano that isn't known very well. Why did we build a city around 53 volcanoes? This gave us four advantages of fertile volcanic soil to plant food and plants, height advantage, source of basalt and scoria to build buildings, alot of kaimoana (Seafood) to eat.

In conclusion, our volcanoes in Auckland really helped us to have everything we needed to survive which includes food, land, source of material and plants.

Auckland Volcano Quiz - Roman

Auckland Volcano Quiz
This was to test out our volcano knowledge to know if we were ready if a volcano has erupted and what other facts about volcanoes. These questions were fairly easy and not very hard to answer as I did a bit of research before I tried out this quiz. I'm pretty happy and impressed with my score, as I expected a 6/10

Mitey The Dog Recount - Roman

Introduction:

After Morning Interval, our teacher told us that he had a little surprise for the class and he pulled up a balloon pack out of a shelf, he then advised us to pump it with the given pump that the pack came with.

The Garbage Pump:

The pump was pretty bad, but luckily our teacher brought a second pack which got a better pump than the first one. While everyone was pumping their balloons, our teacher pulled up a video saying instructions to make a balloon dog.

The Twist:

After everyone pumped their balloons, we all started to follow the video’s instructions and one of the moves was to make a lock twist. A locktwist is when you pinch the balloon and twist the balloon. Most in my class didn’t know how to do the locktwist, so we just helped each other.

The Torso And Tail:

After making the locktwist the video that our teacher put on the TV said to make the torso of the dog, and the instructions to make it was to twist the balloon twice then pull it together which also forms a little tail.

The Finished Product:

After most of my classmates were finished, we started to play around with the balloon dogs. Our teacher had an idea to record us making them for our Manaiakalani Film to represent our school and class.

What is Mitey?

Mitey is an organization (a group of people) that helps people with mental illness like depression, anxiety etc. John Kirwan chose a balloon dog for his logo because depressed people were called the Black Dog.

We are doing DLO's about the weirdest animals that has ever lived, so far this was my favorite one. Its very interesting and has a lot of traits and skills. What I really enjoyed about this is decorating the DLO and finding images about these monkeys. I found some things challenging like finding the facts.  Next time that I do a DLO, I will change the font and add more info.

this one was a very interesting one as it acts like a mutant but is living and breathing. My journey on this DLO was a bit hard because there wasn't many facts that I found, so I had to search more and more to get these facts.
